Very few want to talk about sin, but we all must confront it…or give in to it. A few excuses people use when they sin (yes, I have used some of these).
1. It’s the other person’s fault.
2. I couldn’t help it.
3. Everybody’s doing it.
4. It was just a mistake.
5. Nobody’s perfect.
6. The devil made me do it.
7. I was pressured in to it.
8. I didn’t know it was wrong.
9. God is tempting me.

These are all lies. God may test us, but He would never tempt us. We’ve all shifted blame when we’ve made mistakes, but God wants us to “grow up” spiritually and take responsibility for our own mistakes, turn away from sin, confess and receive the forgiveness we have through His son, Jesus.

We all blow it, and #5 really isn’t a lie (although it can be used as an excuse), but we need to become mature spiritually by taking responsibility of our own actions. Prayer and spending time in the Word are a few of the weapons we have for growth.

There was one perfect man…the Son of God, Jesus. He stands in the gap for us.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
(1 John 1:9)
