It may sound morbid, but I enjoy reading inscriptions on cemetery gravestones; “Loving Mother,” “Devoted Father,” or perhaps a favorite Bible verse or a line from a poem. I have never seen, “Top Salesman,” “Two Regional Championships,” “Great Recruiter.”

What is inscribed on gravestones is almost always about cherished relationships and faith in God. What legacy are we leaving? Sure, we must spend time developing a sales team, teaching students, coaching athletes or becoming a skilled tradesman, but we should never shortchange becoming great in relationships…with family, friends, students, players, co-workers, and most importantly, Christ!

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
(Proverbs 27:17)
