I have a friend who I respect. I know that he cares for me enough to let me know when my attitude gets off-track or if I am not giving my best effort. He looks me in the eye and speaks truth to me. It’s uncomfortable sometimes, but later I’m always thankful. If you don’t have a friend like that in your life, find one. Don’t surround yourself with “yes men,” surround yourself with honest men who will speak truth into your life. Then, correctly handle it.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
