Mound Visits, 8/1/19

My seventh grade English teacher once gave me a well-deserved scolding about a poorly written paper that I had turned in. The only thing I remember her saying was, “do you think you’re going to be a professional baseball player?” Six years later after signing with the Montreal Expos, she was one of the first people I called. Thankfully, she was very happy for me.

As an adult, we should never be a dream crusher for children. We should be encouragers, lighting a path along the way to help guide young people in reaching their goals. They may, or may not, reach their goal, but with encouragement, they may find something even better along the way. For me, I never played Major League Baseball, but most of my adult life was spent coaching, helping others reach their goals.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”
(Proverbs 16:3)
