Mound Visits, 8/6/19

Balor Moore from Smithville, Texas is one of the greatest pitchers I’ve ever seen. The young lefty was dominant in a high school game one day. He struck out the first eight hitters he faced, but then let a blazing fastball get away from him as the young, nine-hole hitter went to the ground. The overmatched and terrified batter crawled half way to the dugout and with one strike left refused to get back in the batter’s box!

Balor went on to become the Expos number one draft pick during the expansion team’s first draft in 1969. The Expos didn’t show patience and after a great start moved the young phenom all the way from Class A to the Big Leagues. As great as Moore was, he wasn’t equipped to pitch against the likes of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Johnny Bench. He struggled mightily as a young 19 year old pitcher.

God wants us to be patient and He wants us to be prepared for the challenges of life through the study of His Word. Jesus’ ministry didn’t start until He was 30 years old. But at 30, He had learned patience and He was equipped and prepared for the greatest challenge anyone had ever faced.

As you face life’s big test,
1. Be prepared
2. Be patient
3. Be confident

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52)
