Have you ever said something to someone, then almost immediately wish you hadn’t said it? I have. It has been said, “you cannot ‘unsay’ a cruel word.” The book of James is filled with wisdom. The 5th chapter is all about “taming the tongue.” In verses 5 and 6 he compares the tongue to a spark of fire:
“…the tongue is a small part of the body…Consider what a great forest fire is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue is also a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.”
If we pause and think before we speak, we may prevent a forest fire that can’t be put out.
