Some receiving this text have, or have had, fathers who protected you, loved you, taught you and provided for you. Others were not blessed in this way. That first commandment with promise, “Honor your father and mother” (Ephesians 6:2) is easier for some than others. This morning, I’m thankful for those who find it easy to honor their fathers. I am also prayerful for the fathers who, in our eyes, don’t deserve honor and for the broken sons and daughters they have left behind–unloved and unprotected. Whether this day brings thankfulness, or memories of sadness and disappointment, let’s be in prayer and honor the One who deserves honor and praise, God the Father.
