What is the definition of a dear friend? She is someone who you may not have seen for a couple of years, but when the two of you get together, it’s like you’ve never been apart. Unfortunately, I often let the demands of life interfere with our special time together; and time passes too quickly between our visits. We don’t work nor live next to each other, our families now include active grandchildren who claim most of our attention, and our lives have just grown so far apart. But, a strong cord of memories and interest in each other’s lives ties us together.
My dear friend and I spent an afternoon together this past week. We hugged, we laughed and we cried together. Our time was short but rewarding. We rejoiced in sharing the triumphs of our grown children; we laughed at the tiresome stories of trying to keep up with active grandchildren; and we mourned while sharing life’s demands on our families.
Having a loving, Christian sister for a friend is priceless. Her wisdom is showered with love and compassion; and she leans on her understanding of God’s Word for guidance. Time together is heartening, fulfilling and encouraging.
“I know that good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there.” (Old Saying)
I thank my Lord for precious time with my dear, sweet sister in Christ.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! …Encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11
