Mickey Mantle once said, “You don’t know how easy this game is until you get up in that broadcast booth.”
Mickey was right. Whether we are broadcasting or coaching, the longer we’re away from the playing the game and the more we talk about the game, the easier it seems to be…from a distance.
Whether it’s baseball, business or politics, the other guys job looks easy. It’s easy to be critical. It’s easy to be callused. It’s easy to be cynical. It’s easy to forget the words of Jesus, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
(Luke 6:31)
Baseball, played at a higher level, is not easy. Life is not easy. We need more encouragement and less criticism; more empathy and less name calling.
