Our SCORE baseball team was setting up to compete on a descent Dominican baseball field. I heard a lot of commotion behind the small collection of wooden bleachers and walked a few yards to see what was going on. An old backstop backed up to a colorful Dominican tree sprouting bright red blossoms; and about 50 young Dominican boys, some in uniforms, cheered the players on the field. It was a “Sandlot Competition” between possibly 4 teams. A few coaches were present, but no one seemed to be totally in charge. The boys were there to participate in their favorite sport, baseball. And I enjoyed watching them compete. Between innings, they gathered for a group picture with me.
