After a high school basketball game, I was feeling a little “too good” about my personal performance. My dad quietly said to me, “Son, you might break your arm patting yourself on the back.” It’s been almost 50 years, but I still remember that message.
Humility doesn’t seem to be sought after by many in the world of sports, entertainment or politics these days, but it seems very important in our relationship with Christ.
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
(Proverbs 11:2)
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5)
“The right manner of growth is to grow less in one’s own eyes.” (Unknown)
