I have two folders in a filing cabinet in my office; one is titled, “Crummy Stuff I Should Forget.” The other folder is titled, “Neat Stuff I Should Remember.” The contents of both span about twenty years of my 28 year coaching career. Thankfully, the “Crummy Stuff” folder is very thin and I’ve only looked inside once or twice. The “Neat Stuff” folder is at least ten times thicker. Most of the contents are personal notes from players, parents, friends and other coaches who encouraged me on the journey. When I sometimes get discouraged, I look at the contents of the “Neat Stuff” folder and realize how God has blessed me. God wants us to remember the “neat stuff” and he wants us to put aside the “crummy stuff” (after we have learned from it).
May our notes of encouragement show up in someone else’s “neat stuff” folder.
