Former football coach, Jerry Claiborne, was the first person I ever heard say, “If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.” It’s very hard to take a stand at times. It can create a situation that makes us unpopular or appear old fashion. The culture created in the work place, classroom or locker room may be a bi-product of our “stand.” Sometimes we will be liked more if we don’t take a stand, but we will always be respected if we do. When we take a stand, we should always be sure to “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15) in order to avoid self-righteousness. A great place to take a stand is in God’s Word. “…be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” (James 5:8)
