When I was in high school I wanted to be like Tom Seaver. He was breaking records for the Mets. He was married to a beautiful blond. He was “Tom Terrific.” Last night I watched a documentary about him. He’s only six years older than me and has been diagnosed with dementia. I still think he’s “terrific.” I said a prayer for Tom and remembered this verse from the prophet Isaiah:
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.””
Isaiah 40:8
By the way, I married a beautiful blond but never came close to pitching like Tom Seaver.
