I can do all this through Him—Who gives me strength.  Philippians 4:13

Stormy Days

A few months ago, the day started out stormy and dark. The wind was howling, green leaves were flying off the trees, and it was hard to believe this was the beginning of a day instead of the end. I ventured outside and was amazed with the beautiful but threatening display of cloud cover that dramatically decorated the sky. Although it was a beautiful sight, I also knew the dangers of being outside, unprotected with the promise of a horrendous storm. And I couldn’t help but think of the beauty of God’s blessing and power. Even when we face times of fear, danger and the unknown often-painful walks of life, God is always there for us.

This November, Keith and I decided we needed to stay in the states instead of traveling to the Dominican Republic for our annual SCORE International Baseball Outreach. Last year, I had to miss our mission trip because I was not completely healed from the surgery to my shattered heel. This year, our eldest son’s sweet Mother-in-law is struggling with Stage IV Lung Cancer that has spread to various parts of her body. Luckily, their entire family lives within 20-miles of each other; and our daughter-in-law, Stacey, needs help with our grandchildren as she spends priceless time with her mother.

It’s hard to walk the path our precious Stacey and her family are now having to walk. I’m sure she feels a plethora of emotions; and I wish I could help more. But, we are asking fellow Christian warriors to help us uplift this family; we know prayer is a powerful tool. God hears all prayers and gives us strength. “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.” Psalm 28:7

After a stormy morning several months ago, the sun broke through the clouds and shone brightly on all of God’s creations. Several trees suffered damage from the brutal wind, and the fallen leaves sadly littered the green lawns. Our Kentucky weather can be compared to life. We have overwhelming beauty one day and threatening storm clouds the next. Thankfully, God is the same yesterday, today and forever; and He is always there to hold our hand.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,  they will walk and not be faint.”  Isaiah 40:31
