Sharon and I have a “hectic stretch” ahead of us for the next few months. It’s a reminder that when there seems to be fewer hours in the day to accomplish what we need, I need to pray more and spend more time in the Word. If I’m not careful, I will leave God out of my activities. With early morning meetings and busy days, it’s easy to get in the habit of spending time with everyone except God. But, time alone with God each morning provides peace, wisdom and a positive attitude for the day.
When our children grew older and “left the nest,” it became incredibly gratifying when they would give us a call or make a visit. Because of our great love for our children, we love hearing from them! God’s capacity to love is greater than ours. Because of this, He receives more joy hearing from us than we do when our kids call! God loves to hear from us. It doesn’t always need to be a long prayer and it doesn’t need to be a formal “visit.” In my life, sometimes I just need to take a deep breath, clear my mind and be alone with God. It sounds easy, but it’s a challenge to slow down and receive His peace and to share what is on my mind and heart.
Paul says it much better in Philippians 4:6,7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
