Repentance.
John the Baptist preached a ‘baptism of repentance.’ His fellow Jews knew they were children of Abraham, so in their theology, that was the most important thing. John shook their world by saying, “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.”
(Luke 3:8)
Our grandparents’ and our parents’ faith will not be enough. We, as individuals, need to repent, have our own faith in Jesus, and then follow Him.
“Repentance is the sweet fruit that comes from faith in the Savior and involves turning toward God and away from sin.” (David A. Bednar)
