Grace for a Theif.
The repentant thief on the cross is a powerful example of grace. On a Roman cross, there was nothing the thief could do to earn his way to be in Paradise with Jesus. But because of his faith in Christ, grace was freely extended to the criminal.
“Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.””
(Luke 23:42-43)
“The prerequisite for receiving the grace of God is to know you need it.” (Timothy Keller)
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
