Mound Visits, 2/17/17

If I could go back in time and give myself advice prior to starting a new season as a baseball coach, I would say this to myself…
1. Continue to give your best every day
2. Look beyond the logo on the players’ jersey and into their hearts
3. Behind the bravado and swag of every man on your team is a little boy who once loved the game. Fan the flame and help him love it more now than ever before. If a player truly loves the game, he will play it with passion and energy
4. Remember, you don’t coach baseball; you coach baseball players
5. Demand excellence, love unconditionally
6. Hold yourself to the same standards you hold your players to; then you will be a phenomenal coach and person
7. Seek wisdom from God every day. (If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5)
8. You will be complete if you, during the season, give quality time to your family and begin each day thanking God for them, for His unconditional love for you and for the opportunity to coach young men. You will be happier if you are thankful
9. Pray for your players, your staff and the players’ parents. You will then see and understand them, in a small way, the way God sees them
10. Enjoy the moment. The precious PRESENT is a GIFT from God
