Mound Visits, 5/3/19
Back during the Big Red Machine era, I was in minor league spring training with the Reds. Pete Rose wasn’t satisfied with the work he was getting in during the big league spring training sessions so afterward he would come to the minor league complex to get extra swings in our batting cages. A few of us would stand around and watch this great hitter wear blisters on his hand while honing his skill. One day, he paused from his work, looked at us and said, “You boys aren’t going to get any better watching me, you need to get in here and hit!” Well, he didn’t say it exactly like that, but you get the point.
You can’t affect the game unless you get in the game! That’s the way it is in life, too. We can read about how to make our communities better, but unless we do something things wont change a lot.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22)
