When Pigs Fly

I’ve always been a bit amazed at the idea of a flying pig. When I was a small girl, I was walking through the woods when I felt a warm heavy plop of something gooey on the top of my head. I soon realized that I had been bombed by a bird and was not a happy camper. What a mess! Although I knew pigs could never fly, whenever I heard that idiom, it made me cringe in fear.

The phrase, “The Flying Pig,” came from a late 1500’s Scottish proverb. Today it is usually a sarcastic reply meaning that whatever has been asked will never come to fruition.

But, as I mature in age and stature, I am beginning to see that almost everyone faces some type of situation that demands a type of miracle to overcome. It could be a health issue, or a family crisis, or even a career concern. Life can be very demanding and seemingly impossible to handle alone, but with God, we can survive and overcome all obstacles thrown in our path. “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With men, this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” (Matthew 19:26)

Nothing in this life is impossible for God to handle. And He is always available when I need Him. I just need to remember to ask for His strength instead of feeling sorry for my weakness. For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)
