Sometimes we hear great and profound statements so often that we become desensitized to them. Many years ago, I met a professional soccer player from Ireland who grew up without having the privilege of going to church, except for weddings and funerals. When he moved to America, a friend of his loaned him his car. While driving he listened to a song that was playing on an audio cassette player…the song was “Jesus Loves Me.” When my Irish friend returned the car he was in tears and deeply moved from hearing lyrics from a song children normally listen to in Sunday School…”Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me…”. My friend Aiden had never pondered that truth until he heard a child’s cassette tape in a friend’s car. Most of us hear those words often. May we never become desensitized to the wonder of His love.
