I often talk and even brag about my former players. Many are good fathers and husbands. There are successful businessmen, doctors, pastors, attorneys, coaches, teachers, farmers, engineers, MLB players and even a manager….one is even a member of the President’s cabinet. But that is not the complete picture. Life isn’t always ideal. I have two former players, that I know of, who are in a major battle with alcohol and one died of an overdose last year. I’m broken-hearted for them and their families. Sometimes I’m driven to my knees for them. Then I realize that, with Christ, they can make it. The prophet Isaiah, centuries ago, gave us this encouragement: “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.” (Isaiah 147:3)
As pray for them, I am comforted and thankful for this assurance.
