What are our motives for doing good deeds for others? Jesus teaches much about this in the 6th chapter of Matthew. In the first two verses He says, “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your father in Heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do….to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.” He continues by encouraging us to give to the needy secretly.
The reward God will give us is far greater than any accolade we might receive from people.
